Drone filming Amsterdam
Certified to fly in the Schiphol control zone
Drone filming in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities to film from the air, and one of the trickiest. A large part of the city lies in the Schiphol CTR: the controlled airspace around the airport. Anyone who sends a drone up there without preparation is breaking the rules. Drone Chiefs flies in Amsterdam in the Specific category, under our own Operational Authorisation from the Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT). We submit the flight plan to Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL), stay in radio contact with the tower during the flight and make sure the operation on location is safe. In Amsterdam we have filmed at AEB Amsterdam and shot aerial footage of the Rijksmuseum, among others.
How a drone flight in Amsterdam works
For a flight in the Schiphol control zone we follow the LVNL procedure. That means a shoot in Amsterdam has to be planned ahead.
• We submit the mission plan via GoDrone no later than two days before the flight, before 10:00.
• One working day in advance, before 10:00, the final flight times are confirmed.
• On the shoot day the tower gives final permission and we stay in radio contact.
• LVNL can limit the number of simultaneous drone flights. The earlier you book, the better your chance of getting the time slot you want.
From 26 November 2026 the control zone will be divided into zones. In parts of Amsterdam permission from the tower will then no longer be needed, but the rules for flying near people and buildings still apply.
What we film in Amsterdam
From the Zuidas to the NDSM wharf and from the canal ring to the Houthavens: we know the city from the air and know which spots need extra preparation.
• Corporate videos and brand content with aerial shots of the city
• Real estate and new-build projects in Amsterdam, Amstelveen and Diemen
• Construction progress and industrial sites in the port area
• Indoor FPV footage, such as in offices, hotels and showrooms

Frequently asked questions about drone filming in Amsterdam
Can you film with a drone in Amsterdam?
Yes, but not just like that. A large part of the city lies in the Schiphol control zone. Until 26 November 2026 permission from air traffic control is always needed there, and after that still in the zones close to the airport.
How far ahead should I book?
Allow at least a week. The flight plan has to be with LVNL two days before the flight, and we first do a location check and risk assessment.
What if the weather is bad?
Then we move the shoot to a new date in consultation. Safety always comes first.
Can you also film indoors?
Yes. Indoors the airspace rules don't apply, so FPV filming in an office or hotel, for example, can be scheduled more quickly.
Get in touch for a no-obligation quote
Feel free to get in touch for a no-obligation quote for aerial filming, FPV footage or a full video production.
Include the location of your project with your request. That way we can check straight away which airspace it falls in and whether extra permits or flight preparation are needed. Based on that we give you a clear quote. Productions start from €750.
It also helps to briefly describe the project and whether you only need aerial footage or a complete production including editing. Think corporate films, commercials, FPV footage or social media content.
That way we can think along quickly and send you a quote that fits your plans and your production.
