Aerial filming for the maritime sector

A container ship guided into port by tugs, cargo handling on the quay or a work vessel on the Maasvlakte: maritime filming takes experience over water and the right permissions. Drone Chiefs has been filming for port companies, logistics firms and shipyards for years, including Euro Rijn Group in the Port of Rotterdam. We fly from the quay, from a support boat or from the ship itself, and plan every flight around wind, tide and shipping traffic. In the Port of Rotterdam we fly with ILT authorisation and inform the site’s safety officers and neighbouring companies in advance.

What do we film in the maritime sector?

We create aerial footage and video of container ships and inland vessels, tugs and work vessels, cargo handling on the quay, terminals and storage, shipyards and hydraulic engineering projects such as sand replenishment. The footage is used for marketing, sales, social media, trade fairs and project documentation.

Flying over water and in the port

Over water the risks are different from on land: there is nowhere to land in between, the weather changes quickly and there is shipping traffic. That is why we fly with experienced pilots, spare batteries and a fixed procedure for take-off and landing from a boat. In port areas and control zones we arrange permission from LVNL and the port authority. That way you can focus on the production while we handle the aviation side.

Frequently asked questions about maritime drone filming

Can you fly from a moving ship?
Yes. We take off and land from the deck or from a support boat, following a fixed procedure.

What if the weather is bad?
Wind and waves determine whether we can fly safely. If it is too rough, we agree on a new date together.

Are you allowed to fly in the Port of Rotterdam?
Yes, with ILT authorisation and permission from LVNL and the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

Get in touch for a no-obligation quote

Feel free to get in touch for a no-obligation quote for aerial filming, FPV footage or a full video production.

Include the location of your project with your request. That way we can check straight away which airspace it falls in and whether extra permits or flight preparation are needed. Based on that we give you a clear quote. Productions start from €750.

It also helps to briefly describe the project and whether you only need aerial footage or a complete production including editing. Think corporate films, commercials, FPV footage or social media content.

That way we can think along quickly and send you a quote that fits your plans and your production.
