Some jobs you never forget. The drone filming at Winter Efteling is one of them. Commissioned by and together with De Vliegende Cameraman, we flew through the wintry park in the evening in 2025. Efteling opened that night especially for us. The five of us walked through the park. All the rides were lit up and music was playing everywhere, but there was nobody else around. It felt surreal, like walking through a film set. And that is exactly what the aerial footage shows.
Flying in a military zone, in the dark
Behind those atmospheric shots was a lot of preparation.
• Efteling lies in a military zone: the control zone of Gilze-Rijen air base. We obtained an exemption for these flights.
• We also flew outside daylight hours, which required a separate exemption.
• Beforehand we made a risk assessment, planned the flight routes and coordinated the flights with the park and air traffic control.
That way we could fly safely and within the rules, even in the dark and just above the attractions.
Working with De Vliegende Cameraman
It wasn't our first night at Efteling. Earlier we filmed a Princess Yachts exhibition on Efteling's Grote Vijver lake.
We carried out this production together with De Vliegende Cameraman. They took on the commission, we provided the drone operation and the permits, and together we flew the shots.

Can a drone fly in the dark?
Outside daylight hours, only with an exemption. Drone Chiefs arranges that for your production.
What is a military zone for drones?
Around military airfields there is controlled airspace (a control zone). You may only fly there with permission, which must be requested at least 24 hours in advance.
Can you also film at a theme park or event?
Yes. We coordinate everything with the organisers and arrange the permissions and safety measures, including near crowds.
