Festival drone filming
Aftermovies and premium aerial shots, from sunset to fireworks
Drone filming for festivals and aftermovies
A festival is only complete when you see the scale: the main stage, the crowd stretching to the horizon, the light show and the fireworks as the finale. Drone Chiefs makes aerial footage for festivals, aftermovies and social content that captures that feeling. We have filmed at Into the Woods, Wildeburg and R2 Festival, among others. We fly the DJI Inspire 3 for cinematic shots in full-frame 8K, and FPV drones for dynamic runs along the stage. Because the best moments often come after sunset, we also fly in the evening and at night. We also have experience filming drone shows.
What we film at festivals
• Overview shots of the grounds, the stages and the build-up
• The crowd at the headliner, from a safe distance
• Light shows, pyro and fireworks in the evening and at night
• Drone shows, captured from a second drone or from the ground
• FPV flights along the stage and set
• Aftermovies, teasers and vertical content for Instagram and TikTok
• Timelapses of build-up and breakdown
Flying safely around crowds
Flying over or close to a crowd isn't something you just do. In the Open category, flying over groups of people is prohibited. We fly in the Specific category, under our own Operational Authorisation from the Dutch ILT (NLD-OAT-041-05G).
• A risk assessment and flight area agreed in advance with the organisers and the safety coordinator
• We don't fly directly over the crowd, but choose positions and routes around it
• Coordination with air traffic control if the site lies in a control zone
• Night flights and flights near fireworks only by arrangement with the pyrotechnician
• Worldwide liability insurance up to €1.3 million per occurrence

Frequently asked questions about festival drone filming
Can a drone fly over the crowd?
No, not directly over a crowd. We plan positions and routes so the crowd looks great on camera without flying over it.
Can you film the fireworks?
Yes. We agree in advance with the pyrotechnician where and when we fly, so the drone stays safely outside the effects zone.
How far ahead should I book?
Ideally a few weeks before the festival, so there is time for flight preparation and coordination with the organisers.
Get in touch for a no-obligation quote
Feel free to get in touch for a no-obligation quote for aerial filming, FPV footage or a full video production.
Include the location of your project with your request. That way we can check straight away which airspace it falls in and whether extra permits or flight preparation are needed. Based on that we give you a clear quote. Productions start from €750.
It also helps to briefly describe the project and whether you only need aerial footage or a complete production including editing. Think corporate films, commercials, FPV footage or social media content.
That way we can think along quickly and send you a quote that fits your plans and your production.
