Sports drone filming

Drone filming for sports and stadiums
Sport is about the experience, and from the air it hits even harder: a packed stand, a stadium at sunset, a city ready for a new season. Drone Chiefs makes aerial and FPV footage for sports clubs, leagues, event organisers and brands. For the campaign "De Eredivisie gaat weer beginnen!" we worked on behalf of Hazazah. It was a large professional production with around 60 people on set, spread across several locations in Rotterdam. Drone Chiefs was responsible for the aerial footage at the Erasmus Bridge, where people in mascot suits stood cheering on the bridge.
What we film in sports
From a season kick-off to a sponsor video: aerial footage gives sports content scale and energy.
• Campaign videos and promos for leagues and clubs
• Aerial footage of stadiums, training grounds and facilities
• Indoor FPV footage along stands, through player tunnels and halls
• Content for sponsors and partners
• Sports events, from cycling to motorsport
Flying safely around stadiums and crowds
Sports and crowds come with strict rules. In the Open category you may not fly over groups of people, and many stadiums lie in urban areas or in controlled airspace around an airport. Most shoots therefore require a flight in the Specific category.
Drone Chiefs holds its own Operational Authorisation from the Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT). We coordinate every flight with the club or organisation, the safety coordinator and, where needed, air traffic control. Shoots with an audience are planned so that we never fly over spectators.
The Erasmus Bridge lies within the control zone of Rotterdam The Hague Airport. For these shots we registered and coordinated the flights with air traffic control in advance, and worked closely with the production on set.

Frequently asked questions about sports drone filming
Can you film during a match?
That depends on the location, the crowd and the agreements with the organisers. We often film the stadium and its surroundings before or after the match, and use an FPV drone indoors at quiet moments.
Can you just fly a drone at a stadium?
No. Around stadiums the rules for flying near people and buildings apply, and some lie in controlled airspace. With a Specific authorisation and the right permission, a lot is possible.
How far ahead should I book?
Ideally a few weeks, so there is time for flight preparation and coordination with the club, the organisers and, if needed, air traffic control.
Get in touch for a no-obligation quote
Feel free to get in touch for a no-obligation quote for aerial filming, FPV footage or a full video production.
Include the location of your project with your request. That way we can check straight away which airspace it falls in and whether extra permits or flight preparation are needed. Based on that we give you a clear quote. Productions start from €750.
It also helps to briefly describe the project and whether you only need aerial footage or a complete production including editing. Think corporate films, commercials, FPV footage or social media content.
That way we can think along quickly and send you a quote that fits your plans and your production.
